A Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) is an instructor with at least 25 certifications, qualified to teach at least 5 speciality courses.

Instructors with proven experience in certain speciality fields can certify themselves to become an instructor in that speciality, but you can also become certified by attending a speciality instructor course run by a Course Director. The benefit of this is that you require less experience in the field and will receive training on how to teach the course.

After completing at least 5 speciality instructor courses and certifying at least 25 divers, you can apply for the MSDT rating, which proves an instructor has teaching experience. MSDTs are also eligible to become IDC Staff Instructors.
